Herkimer BOCES asks visitors
to respect school grounds

Dec. 1, 2017

Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES officials remind all community members that BOCES is a public school facility and that all visitors must follow the same rules they would when visiting any other school.

District Superintendent Sandra Sherwood and Safety Service Coordinator Adam Hutchinson said the WEB Complex’s rural setting often causes people to forget where they are. They stress that for safety, people must:
  • Walk the hiking trails only when school is not in session,
  • Clean up after their pets,
  • Observe New York state law prohibiting drugs or alcohol on school property, and
  • Observe New York state law prohibiting firearms and hunting on school property.
“Our secluded spot on Gros Blvd. makes it easy to forget we’re here or that we are a school,” said Sherwood. “We want everyone to remember and to do their part to keep our students and staff safe.”
