Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Menís Career Experience keynote speaker Dan Stalteri told students in attendance that he hoped to be a carpenter when he was young and how that led him on his career path.

Stalteri has since 1999 been the vice president of contract furniture for Kitchen & Interior Concepts, a wood-mode kitchen and bath dealership in Mohawk that is a division of Hummelís Office Plus.

ďWhat do you want to do when you grow up?Ē Stalteri said. ďFor the next few hours, I want you to think about that question.Ē

The Herkimer BOCES School To Careers program put on the third annual Menís Career Experience on Thursday, Nov. 16, at Herkimer BOCES for male students in grades 10-12. STC also hosts the Womenís Career Experience each spring for female students in those grades. The events are designed to help students consider their career paths while hearing directly from local leaders in their career fields.

School To Careers liaison and work-based learning coordinator MaryBeth Napolitano opened the event by talking to students about the goals for the day and that she wanted the students to think about career paths that would make them feel independent and happy.

Following Napolitanoís opening remarks and Stalteriís keynote speech, there were breakout sessions for students with Stalteri and three other guests. The event then wrapped up with everyone back together in the BOCES lobby.

The three other breakout session guests were:
  • Zach Perri, who works as a contractor for Timís Building and Restoration.
  • Frank Madia, an attorney in private practice with the Law Offices of George F. Aney.
  • Robert Piersma, a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation forest ranger.
