Richfield Springs names Thomas Piatti new superintendent
April 7, 2016

The Richfield Springs Board of Education has named Thomas Piatti as the district’s incoming superintendent of schools.

Piatti, who will start on July 1, said he was “very, very excited,” when he found out he was selected for the job.
“It will be an honor and a privilege to serve Richfield Springs,” Piatti said. “I’d like to thank the Board of Education and all members of the community involved in the search process for this tremendous opportunity. Consistently, a strong sense of family, unity and pride in what I can now call ‘our school’ came shining through.”

Piatti, who is currently the middle school principal at Chittenango Central School District and has a certificate of advanced graduate study in educational leadership from the University of New England, was selected from a pool of candidates that had previously been narrowed down to three finalists.

The Richfield Springs Board of Education has a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 20, during which board members plan to formally appoint Piatti to a three-year contract with a starting annual salary of $125,000, Board President Scot Mondore said.

“The Richfield Springs Central School Board of Education wishes to thank community members, students and staff for their support in assisting the board with selecting the next superintendent of schools,” Mondore said. “When the board set out to identify the next leader of the district, we did so in hopes of finding an inspirational leader who would be able to unite the community, students and staff behind the educational goals of the district. In Thomas Piatti, we found these qualities and more. We are pleased to welcome Tom into the RSCS community and look forward to working with Tom as he leads the district in fulfilling the potential of the entire RSCS family.”

Piatti said he plans to build upon the work already being done at Richfield Springs.

“There’s been an exceptional growth in student achievement over the last year at Richfield Springs,” Piatti said. “We can always reach new heights, and I am looking forward to being a part of our future growth, improvement and success.”

Piatti was impressed with the district during the superintendent search process, he said.

“Richfield Springs has a beautiful building, excellent facilities and outstanding resources for the students,” he said.

For the superintendent search, the Richfield Springs Board of Education contracted with Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES District Superintendent Mark Vivacqua to lead the search and conduct screening interviews with applicants.

Richfield Springs residents also participated in an online superintendent search survey to share their opinions on what they were looking for in a candidate. The survey results were used to help narrow the field to six candidates before the three finalists were selected. The finalists participated in full-day interviews at the district, a community forum and additional interviews with the Board of Education before a decision was made.

Richfield Springs Interim Superintendent Cliff Moses will continue to fill the position through June 30.
