Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES 8:1:1 behavior adjustment classrooms at the Herkimer Elementary School wrote letters thanking veterans for their service, bravery and sacrifice as part of the classrooms’ November education theme of “citizenship.”

Students learned about what being a good citizen looks like in our classrooms, communities and country; qualities of good citizens and how they can give back to our communities; and Veterans Day and the importance of this holiday.

The sacrifices of veterans were discussed, and the classes wanted to give back to Veterans by thanking them for their service.

Pictured above and below, students hold up the letters they wrote to the veterans.

The letters will be on display at the Herkimer Applebee’s on Friday, Nov. 11, when veterans can receive free meals from Applebee’s.

“We are very honored to be able to show our gratitude to our American veterans,” school counselor Deanna Williams said.
