Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES building construction students recently made wooden silhouettes for “Shadows of Our Silence: Speaking Out Against Domestic Violence,” a local project to raise awareness about domestic violence.

Built in Herkimer BOCES building construction instructor John Martin’s class, the wooden silhouettes will have stories of victims posted on them.

Silhouettes that will be painted red will have the stories of victims who lost their lives to domestic violence. Silhouettes that will be painted purple will have the stories of victims who survived the violence.

These figures will be on display on Friday, Oct. 7, at the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts studio at 411 Canal Place in Little Falls during “Art and Awareness.” The event is an art sale that includes gift certificate raffles, wine and hors d’oeuvres – with benefits going to the Domestic Violence Program of Herkimer County.

The figures also will be displayed at “Shine the Light,” a candle-lit march with guest speakers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, at Herkimer College.
