Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Board of Education President Daniel LaLonde is sworn in during the board’s reorganization meeting on July 7 by board clerk Shawn Maxson. LaLonde was re-elected to the Herkimer BOCES board on April 20 by the component district school boards and was re-elected by Herkimer BOCES board members on July 7 as board president.

HERKIMER – Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Board of Education President Daniel LaLonde and Vice President Thomas Shypski were recently re-elected to their fourth consecutive one-year terms in the positions.

Herkimer BOCES board members re-elected LaLonde and Shypski during the board’s annual reorganization meeting on July 7, 2016.

LaLonde has been serving on the Herkimer BOCES Board of Education since 2004 including four years as vice president and the past three years as board president. He was elected to the Ilion Board of Education in 1999 – serving part of his time as board president – and has served on the Central Valley board since its inception. He retired from the Ilion Fire Department after a career-ending injury in 1992.

Shypski, who also serves on the Richfield Springs Board of Education, was elected to the Herkimer BOCES Board of Education in 2009. Shypski has a business management/economics degree from Albany State, worked most of his career in agribusiness on the family Cullen Pumpkin Farm just outside of Richfield and is now retired from his position as water superintendent for the village of Richfield Springs.

During the July 7 reorganization meeting, the three board members elected during the April 20 vote among the Herkimer BOCES component school boards were sworn in. LaLonde and board member Daniel Voce were re-elected, and Janine Lynch was elected to the board for the first time. They were elected to three-year terms on the board from July 1, 2016, through June 30, 2019.

Voce has been serving on the Herkimer BOCES Board of Education since 2010 and the Herkimer Central School District board since 2013. He is a packaging manager at the F.X. Matt Brewing Co. in Utica.

Lynch, a first-time member of the Herkimer BOCES Board of Education, has been serving on the West Canada Valley school board since July 1, 2015. She works for MetLife Insurance Co.

The reorganization meeting also was when Herkimer BOCES District Superintendent Mark Vivacqua announced his retirement effective Aug. 31, and board members said they intend to hire him on a part-time, short-term basis to help with the transition.

Additionally, the meeting included setting the schedule of meetings for the 2016-17 school year. The board’s meetings will all take place starting at 5:30 p.m. on the following Thursdays:
  • Aug. 4
  • Aug. 25
