Students in the special education wing at Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES have been enjoying seeing a variety of birds including bluebirds thanks to a community effort.

Deb Hagadorn, a teacher aide in an alternate assessment and career preparation classroom, noticed some bluebirds outside and contacted the Herkimer County Soil and Water Conservation District, which donated two birdhouses to Herkimer BOCES.

Herkimer BOCES havy equipment operation students then put the birdhouses up outside, and the students have “absolutely” been enjoying seeing the birds outside ever since, Hagadorn said.

“They’re enthralled by them,” she said.
