Herkimer BOCES honors Sturges Manufacturing Co. with
Community Partnership Award at 2016 Annual Meeting

HERKIMER – Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES honored Sturges Manufacturing Co. with its 2016 Community Partnership Award during the Herkimer BOCES Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 7.

Valley Pathways in Technology Early College High School Principal Brittany DerCola nominated Sturges Manufacturing Co. for the award because the company hosted a beneficial tour for VP-TECH students, Sturges General Manager Bruce Brach volunteered to be a mentor for a VP-TECH student and Brach is a big supporter of career and technical education programs as well as VP-TECH and career exposure for students.
Brach attended the Annual Meeting to receive the award.

“I think it’s a great honor,” Brach said. “It’s definitely nice to be able to contribute to the future generations.”

All superintendents and Board of Education members from the 10 Herkimer BOCES component school districts were invited to attend the Annual Meeting along with Herkimer BOCES administrators.

Dolgeville Central School District served as the host for this year’s Annual Meeting with Dolgeville Board of Education President Karen Nagle as the chairperson for the event.

Entertainment was provided by the Dolgeville Fifth and Sixth Grade Select Choir directed by Leslie Kubica and the Jazz Band directed by Mark Case.

Herkimer BOCES culinary and hospitality students served hors d'oeuvres, refreshments and dinner for the guests.

The business meeting portion of the event included the award presentation to Sturges Manufacturing, Nagle and Herkimer BOCES Board of Education President Daniel LaLonde welcoming guests to the meeting, Herkimer BOCES District Superintendent Mark Vivacqua giving a State of the BOCES presentation, Central Valley Superintendent Richard Hughes surprising Vivacqua with a Mohawk Regional Association of School District Administrators award for his service to students in the Herkimer BOCES region and candidates for BOCES Board of Education seats addressing the audience.
