HERKIMER – Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES building construction students recently built two cat trees to donate to the Helping Animals Live Organization Inc.’s eighth annual H.A.L.O. Chinese Auction, which takes place at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 6, at the Silverado Inn in Herkimer.

The Herkimer BOCES students followed designs provided by H.A.L.O. to build the cat trees, building construction instructor John Martin said.

Last year, the class built one cat tree, and it was a popular item at the auction, so this year, the students made two, he said.

“We try to do community service projects every year,” he said.

H.A.L.O. is a non-profit animal rescue shelter, admission to the auction is free. The money raised from the fundraiser goes for the care of the cats and kittens at H.A.L.O., as well as for the purchase of food and litter and help with veterinary expenses.
