Herkimer BOCES Remington Educational Complex students dismissed following building going on lockout
Oct. 20, 2015

ILION – The Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Remington Educational Complex at 77 E. North St. in Ilion was placed on lockout starting around 1:35 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 20, in response to an interpersonal incident between adults that occurred outside of the school building but near the school premises.

“There was concern that there might be a subsequent incident near the school,” Herkimer BOCES District Superintendent Mark Vivacqua said. “There was no immediate danger to anyone inside the building, but in an abundance of caution, the school was placed on lockout, police arrived to the complex and police supervised student dismissal at the regular time.”

The Remington Educational Complex houses school-aged students in the Herkimer BOCES Pathways Academy at Remington and special programs, as well as adult education students. A lockout means the building was secured to prevent anyone from entering the building, and students were able to move about within the building as they normally would.

School will resume as normal tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the Remington Educational Complex.

For questions about the incident that caused the lockout, please contact Ilion police.
