Mount Markham superintendent search narrowed to two finalists
Sept. 23, 2015

The Mount Markham Board of Education has selected two finalists in the search for the next superintendent of schools.

The finalists are:
  • Donald Wheeler, superintendent of Bainbridge-Guilford Central School District.
    á
  • Paul Berry, superintendent of Hadley-Luzerne Central School District.
Wheeler, who has a doctorate in educational leadership from Syracuse University, and Berry, who has a doctorate in education administration from the University at Albany, will have full-day interviews at Mount Markham Central School District on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The interviews will include meetings with various constituent groups in the school district and an open community forum in the evening.

All members of the community are invited to attend the open forum from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, in the Mount Markham elementary cafeteria. After the finalists give brief introductions, they will take questions from the audience.

Mount Markham board members also are seeking community input through a committee of volunteers who will help to interview the finalists in the late afternoon on Wednesday, Sept. 30. To volunteer for the committee, contact Mount Markham District Clerk Mary Holmes at 315-822-2824 or mholmes@mmcsd.org.

Former Mount Markham Superintendent Shawn Bissetta resigned in December 2014, and Interim Superintendent Robert Service has been leading the district since January 2015.

The Mount Markham Board of Education contracted with Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES District Superintendent Mark Vivacqua to lead the superintendent search. Screening and interviews with the Mount Markham school board took place to narrow the pool of candidates down to the finalists. Board members hope to select the next superintendent shortly after the interview process is completed.
