Herkimer BOCES board welcomes new member,
re-elects board president, vice president

July 16, 2015

Jack Bono is sworn in as a member of the Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Board of Education by Board Clerk Shawn Maxson on Thursday, July 9, at Herkimer BOCES. Bono was elected to the BOCES board for the first time during an April 22 vote by the school boards of the 10 Herkimer BOCES component districts.

Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Board of Education member Daniel LaLonde was elected to his third consecutive one-year term as board president during the board’s annual reorganization meeting on July 9 at Herkimer BOCES.

Also during the meeting, board member Thomas Shypski was elected to his third straight term as the board’s vice president. Shypski was re-elected to the Herkimer BOCES Board of Education during the April 22 vote by school boards of the 10 Herkimer BOCES component districts.

The April 22 vote also saw Bill Dodge re-elected to the BOCES board and Jack Bono elected for the first time. The three board members elected in April were sworn in and welcomed during the reorganization meeting.

LaLonde has been serving on the Herkimer BOCES Board of Education since 2004 including four years as vice president. He was elected to the Ilion Board of Education in 1999, where he recently served as board president, and was elected as a member of the Central Valley School District Board of Education. He retired from the Ilion Fire Department after a career-ending injury in 1992.

Shypski, who also serves on the Richfield Springs Board of Education, was elected to the Herkimer BOCES Board of Education in 2009. Shypski has a business management/economics degree from Albany State, worked most of his career in agribusiness on the family Cullen Pumpkin Farm just outside of Richfield and is now retired from his position as water superintendent for the village of Richfield Springs.

Dodge, who was first elected to the BOCES board in 2009, has served on the Little Falls Board of Education for 10 years. He has worked for the Little Falls Fire Department for 35 years.

Bono has served on the Frankfort-Schuyler Board of Education for seven years. He has a business economics degree from SUNY Oneonta and is self-employed through Bono Brothers LLC. He also has been involved with the Frankfort Little League and American Youth Soccer Organization for about 10 years.

The Herkimer BOCES reorganization meeting also included setting the schedule of meetings for the 2015-16 school year and the reorganization meeting for the 2016-17 school year. The board’s meetings will all take place starting at 5:30 p.m. on the following Thursdays:
