Open House introduces student to Herkimer BOCES
March 11, 2015

HERKIMER – Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES criminal justice student Danny Herring, a junior of Dolgeville, decided on his career path two years ago when he visited the Herkimer BOCES Open House.

“When I came here, it gave me an idea for a career really,” Herring said.

On Wednesday, March 11, Herring was one of the criminal justice students directing traffic and patrolling the busy hallways during the Herkimer BOCES Open House.

Many current Herkimer BOCES students visited Open House before deciding to join a career and technical education program.

Visual communications media arts students Steve Ciulla, a senior of Little Falls, and Mark Loiacono, a senior of Owen D. Young, both attended an Open House prior to signing up.

“Visiting Open House was a good experience and opportunity to learn about broadcasting,” Loiacono said.

The decision after that to attend BOCES was a good one because the visual communications media arts program has been helpful, Ciulla said.

Automotive technology student Kassandra Fransman, a junior of Poland, said it was Sophomore Visitation Day that first introduced her to Herkimer BOCES, and she then came back for Open House to see more and because her mom wanted to see BOCES for herself.

“I think it’s good because you get to see what we work on,” she said. “It’s a good program. I like it.”
